Single Ski Lift Chair

Custom-made from a single ski lift chair and new wooden legs, this unique, repurposed masterpiece brings the joy of the slopes inside! The chair's original frame and updated chair back and seat are a beautiful orange. In keeping with its original number, 49 is painted the back of the chair. New legs, designed with a lower shelf and painted black, give the chair a seat height of 21.5 inches.

Single chair lifts have become increasingly rare in North America, which makes them exceptionally difficult to find for sale in the antique market. The first single chair lift was installed at Sun Valley Resort in Ketchum, Idaho in 1936, designed by James Curran, a railroad engineer from Nebraska. These early mechanical devices played a revolutionary role in the development of alpine skiing as a popular sport. As a result, those that do appear are often prized for their historical and technological importance, making them valuable pieces for collectors and enthusiasts of early ski resort history.
