Decorating With Bronze, Brass & Copper Antiques

Posted on March 05, 2018 by Shannen Eikerman

Bronze and other metallics have been taking 2018 by storm in the design world, and it’s no wonder why. These metals are naturally warm and rosy, evoking an antique vibe even in the most modern settings. Here are some ideas to add a touch of warmth and antiquity using bronze, brass and copper accents.

Containers & Vases

Antique brass and copper containers look amazing when paired with plants. The easiest way to incorporate warm metallics is to use them as a table centerpiece. For example, you can use a 1910 antique copper milk can like this one, add some colorful flowers - and voila, immediate metallic warmth. Teapots work perfectly for something on a smaller scale.

Mirrors & Frames

In our last blog post, we talked about incorporating antique frames and mirrors to spruce up your walls. Antique frames and mirrors instantly add sophistication to any room with their beautiful patina.

On dark walls, brass and copper can make a bold statement. The unique design and patterns really stand out and the brightness of the metallics provides a fantastic contrast to the darker backdrop.

Lanterns & Lighting

Can you believe that candles and lanterns used to the main source of light for a household? Ornate in their design, antique lanterns and candlesticks can steal the show with their sophisticated touch. Our store favorite is this bronze square lantern and pair of ornate brass and porcelain candlesticks.

It’s In The Small Things: Bronze Home Accessories

Try incorporating warm metallics into smaller everyday items like plates, serving dishes and napkin rings. A few small touches can really pull the whole look together.

Looking for a fun conversation piece? Displaying an antique balance scale is a unique way to bring the bronze trend to your home. Forged from brass, the pans are usually mildly oxidized, adding a beautiful texture and color. Leave it as is, or balance small trinkets you’d like to display. Find one of our favorite antique balance scales here.

Bonus: Accent, accent, accent!

Bronze and brass is everywhere, but it’s also where you’re not looking. On many antique dressers, trunks, desks and armoires, gorgeous embellishments abound. From dresser and drawer pulls, to hinges, escutcheons and keys, these beautiful bronze accents can be a powerful addition to any home.

The trend is everywhere!
