This carved wooden Gothic style desk and chair is one of our favorite pieces. Commissioned by Baron Alfred Moritz Friedrich Baumgarten Ph. D and built by Belgian sculptor Alphonse de Tombay in 1891. Tombay is well known for his sculpture in metal. The desk and chair are one of the few pieces known done in wood.
Condition: Good. Some small pieces of trim are missing from the backside of the piece, and the fingers and left toes on the carved figure have come off over time. This however does little to detract from the value because of the rarity of this piece.
