Hand carved with elaborate care, this ornate coal scuttle bin has acanthus leaves scrolling about the front, top, and sides. The focal point of the box is the sloped front lid with the face of a lion carved in the center. A brass ring, which serves as the handle to open the lid, is held securely in his mouth. The top of the box is carved with a vase full of foliage and round fruit. Although coal storage is no longer needed, this box is ideal for storing fire starting material near a fireplace.
