Once used near a stove or fireplace as a receptacle for the remains of coal, this copper coal kettle with its airtight seal kept valuable coal from burning during the night while continuing to radiate heat throughout the room without the risk of starting a fire. The kettle features a copper body with a copper handle secured by loop brackets riveted to the canister. Capped with a brass handle, the copper lid fits snugly over the body. Three small feet support the kettle.
