Designed to serve as a container for sea transport, sea chests were sometimes elaborately adorned with intricate ironwork as is the case with this extra large, hinged, dome top chest. The chest has high quality, detailed, decorative iron edging. The dark hardware is a beautiful contrast to the light color of the white oak. Inside the chest has a candle box, as candles were valuable possessions at the time.
