Salt glaze stoneware dates back to the 1500's in Germany. While the pottery was fired, salt was added to the kiln to create a textured, nubby effect and a clear, glassy finish. This open, salt glazed, ovoid shaped crock has two looped handles. It is decorated front and back with a rich, cobalt, floral design.
