Gout footstools were used to support the afflicted foot by resting the leg on the longer portion of the stool and the foot on the shorter portion. This gout stool has a reeded, walnut X base that terminates in scrolled acanthus leaves. The needlepoint upholstery is secured with brass upholstery nails.
