Pigeon clocks were notorious in Belgium in the late 19th century for racing carrier pigeons. These clocks were used to record a serial number which corresponded to a band on the pigeon's leg. The clock was set and sealed. When the pigeon returned, the owner removed the band and placed it in a slot in the clock which recorded the pigeon's official time. An average speed was calculated for the pigeon based on the time stamp in the clock. This pigeon clock was manufactured by Toulet Excelsior. The case is made of oak. The glass, leather handle, and metal clockwork are intact. The clock has not been tested.
