Pigeon clocks were notorious in Europe in the mid 19th century for racing homing pigeons. These clocks were used to record a serial number which corresponded to a band on the pigeon's leg. The clock was set and sealed. When the pigeon returned, the owner removed the band and placed it in a slot in the clock which recorded the pigeon's official time. This pigeon clock is a Benzing Original Brevete in an oak case. Its serial number is 74433. According to The Pigeon Clock Museum in The Netherlands, the clock was manufactured in 1933. The clock has not been tested.
