Manufactured in Ontario, Canada by the renowned Renfrew Manufacturing Co. Ltd, this versatile piece once served as a platform scale and dolly for weighing and moving heavy items. Today, it is repurposed as a delightful, eye-catching coffee table that is sure to be a conversation starter in any room.
The table is comprised of a platform scale with a flat oak top and brass scale that could handle weight up to 2000 pounds. A swing cover over the scale protected the components when the scale was used as a dolly. When lifted upright, the piece became an L-shaped, hand-truck dolly with two cast iron wheels, wide wooden handles, and a short platform. The sides are painted with red scalloped and scrolled vines. This scale/dolly combination was used on farms for weighing livestock and produce, at railroad stations for weighing and moving large parcels, and in warehouses and stores across Canada and the United States.
