Salter's Trade Spring Balance Hanging Scale. This brass dial, spring balance scale by Salter weighed items up to 200 pounds in one pound increments. The dial is numbered from 0 to 200. The scale has a Silverster's patent and is marked No20T. It was made in England. The bottom of the dial has the knotted rope trademark. The Salter Company was established in 1782 by Richard Salter of West Bromwich England, manufacturing pocket steelyards. The face of the scale is 9 1/4" in diameter. It measures 25" from the top of the cast iron upper hook to the bottom of the cast iron lower hook.
