Swedish Painted Mora Clock

Mora clocks originate in Mora, Sweden, in the late 18th century. The clocks supplemented the income of the farming community with each family specialized in making a piece or pieces of the clock. This Mora is crowned with a trilobe crest above the clock face, which is covered with convex hood glass. The face has a 10.75 inch diameter. The original clock movement has been replaced by a battery driven movement. The paint is original with a folk art foliage motif. Country clocks like this one do not have pendulum belly windows due to the expense of glass, rather a painted door held in place by a lower groove inside the clock and an upper pin covers the belly. A flat base supports the clock. Inside the base, the names Malad and Olaf Ramberg are handwritten with the date Dec. 1924.
