From Andrea Schumacher:

How long have you lived in the Denver area?

I spent my formative years in Fort Collins. At 19, I moved to LA for a bit and then came back to finish my degree at CSU. I've been in Denver since then.

What's your favorite aspect about living in Denver?

Denver is unique in the lifestyle that it allows it's residents. It's in a gorgeous natural setting, with incredible weather throughout the different seasons, and it has many beautiful and interesting neighborhoods that are not too far from the mountains. It's a fun city that is continuously evolving and is much more international than one would expect.

Any design tips, especially for incorporating antiques and heirlooms into spaces?

We like to give our designs a cultivated feel as if it has been put together over time. These are some of our go to's:

  1. Reuse items that you already own. Give them new life with a fresh coat of paint or reupholstery.
  2. Layer pieces from different time periods to give your space an interesting mix that feels collected.
  3. Add antique pieces to a crisp modern design for a one-of-a kind juxtaposition.

From Principal, Sarah Broughton, AIA:

What's your favorite aspect about living in Denver?

The culture. We love the museums, art galleries and all of the amazing new restaurants in the Denver area.

Any design tips, especially for incorporating antiques and heirlooms into spaces?

We love to layer in antiques and heirlooms. Plan early and make room for important pieces that fit the scale and proportion of the room.

From Michelle Ku:

How long have you lived in the Denver area?

I have lived in Denver proper for a little over 31 years.

What's your favorite aspect about living in Denver?

The climate. In December of 1985 I moved to Colorado from central Illinois. Before coming here, I really didn’t know the sun shined in the winter time. I wouldn’t trade our crystal clear blue skies and low humidity for anything.

Any design tips, especially for incorporating antiques and heirlooms into spaces?

I am all about incorporating my clients’ well-loved treasures. If you love it and it makes you happy, it should be in your space. How you go about incorporating your heirlooms totally depends on them and your current style. If they possess monetary value, they need to be treated differently than if value is only sentimental. If they only offer sentimental value, go wild by repainting in a bold color and/or adding a new mod fabric. My 1st client had two dated chairs from her favorite great aunt. New upholstery fabric and refreshed wood finishes was all it took to bring them back to life. A valuable antique, be it a case piece, chair, etc., can really make a statement in an ultra-modern space when it stands on its own as a contrast to everything around it.
