The shell handle on this pewter pitcher allowed for easily lifting the lid with the thumb. The lid kept milk safe from flies since it covers both the mouth and the pour spout. The diameter of the mouth is 3". The diameter of the base is 3.5". The belly of the pitcher has a dent on one side.
