Carved from solid oak and finished with a dark stain in the mid-nineteenth century, this stunning chair features a pierced back of flowers, leaves, and scrolls and a seat carved with shells and scrolled vines consistent with Louis XV style furniture. The chair's arms begin and end in carved acanthus leaves. Turned stiles, arm supports, and legs united by a curved X stretcher add elegance and stability. The chair's ears and the center of the stretcher are embellished with decorative finials. Raised on ball feet the chair back has a height of 55.25 inches and a seat height of 18.5 inches.
Condition: Consistent with age and use. Chip on front edge of seat. Repair to chair back. See photo.
